Flyers quick response dooms Senators

PHILADELPHIA – Scott Laughton put the Flyers ahead, again, with a goal 11 seconds after the visiting Ottawa Senators had tied the game at 3-3 on Saturday afternoon.

Philadelphia Flyers and Ottawa Senators players mix it up with under three minutes to play.

That was all the Flyers needed to take the victory.

“[Flyers coach Alain Vigneault] is giving me a lot of opportunities, especially late in games, going out there and protecting leads,” Laughton said. “He’s put a lot of trust in me, so I think you want to show him right and work as hard as you can.”

Carter Hart made 27 saves in the win.

Anthony Duclair struck for two goals for the Senators who have dropped six of their seven games.

“We played well for the most part,” Duclair said. “A little sloppy start, but I think the guys picked it up. All four lines were rolling, just unfortunate that we couldn’t close it out at the end there.”

Ivan Provorov, Travis Konecny and Shayne Gostisbehere also scored for Philadelphia.

“There were some different moments where I thought we were sharp and executed well, and some other moments where I thought we didn’t check well and execute well, some unforced turnovers with nobody around,” Vigneault said. “It was a mixed game, but I’ve been in this game long enough to know you never critique a win.”

Brady Tkachuk had a single marker for the Senators.

“For a 20-year-old kid (Tkachuk) to play with that kind of jam, and on this trip, he really started to take some leadership role in that department where regardless of the night, he plays hard,” Senators coach D.J. Smith said. “[I] thought he dragged us into the battle tonight when some guys were a little flat. Thought he was great.”
