PHILADELPHIA – The Flyers and New York Rangers have had some classic matches in the final game of the season over the years.
Saturday’s was not one of them as the Flyers took a 5-0 win, punched their post season ticket and scored twice in six seconds.

Claude Giroux scored his first NHL hat trick in the win.
“He was dialed in,” Flyers head coach Dave Hakstol said. “You could tell and see that all the way through. We’ve seen that over the entire stretch run here. … [Giroux] is our captain and leader for us. He went out and did the job. He led the way for and along with everyone else to do their job.”
The win secured third place in the Metropolitan Division.
Michael Raffl and Ivan Provorov also scored for the Flyers.
The Flyers scored three times in the second period including the two goals six seconds apart by Raffi and Giroux.
Brian Elliott made 17 saves for the shutout win.
“[Giroux] coming in, you could tell before the game he had that quiet confidence going,” Elliott said. “Scoring three like he did boosted our whole team for sure.”

Henrik Lundqvist made 35 saves in taking the loss.
“We knew this was going to be the last game, knew it was going got be a tough game against a good team, a desperate team,” Lundqvist said.
The Rangers missed the playoffs for the first time since 2010.
“It’s important to have the mindset that it’s not going to happen two years in row. Long summer, work hard, get healthy and come prepared. It’s a season for us to forget and learn from and move on,” Mats Zuccarello said after the game.
