Flyers post win in Columbus

The Philadelphia Flyers won for the first time in 14 years in Columbus as Brian Elliott made 28 saves in a 3-2 win over the Blue Jackets on Wednesday.

“It means the last 10 years, 11 years, we never won here, so it’s definitely great to get a win,” Claude Giroux said.

Brian Elliott #37 of the Philadelphia Flyers got the rare road win in Columbus on Wednesday

Giroux had the game-winner in the third period.

Nick Foligno and Seth Jones scored for the Jackets.

“We dumbed ourselves into a loss,” Columbus coach John Tortorella said. “Had a good start, then we dumbed ourselves into it.

“We beat ourselves, and I’m not disrespecting Philly. You can’t put a team on the power play five times in a couple of periods. This is on us. It’s just a dumb hockey team tonight.”

Tyler Pitlick  and Scott Laughton scored for the Flyers.

“In the first period, obviously, our power play wasn’t executing the way it should,” Flyers head coach Alain Vigneault said. “We weren’t getting any looks.”

The Flyers are 3-0-1 in their last four.

“I thought we did a good job not getting rattled letting in a goal in the last minute,” Elliott said. “That’s a big sign that we’re a veteran team that can handle some misplays and come back with resilience.”

Joonas Korpisalo made 19 saves in the loss.

“We dug ourselves a hole, really, in the first 40 minutes,” Jones said. “We had to find a way to get out of it. In the third, we got some looks but no consistent pressure. We gave away two points tonight and that’s not the way we need to play.”
