PHILADELPHIA – The Philadelphia Flyers celebrate their 50th Anniversary this season. A number of events and promotions have been planned for the season.
Earlier this off-season the Flyers released a new sweater design to commemorate the 50 years in the National Hockey League.
On Wednesday of this week, the club announced the date and lineup for the Flyers-Penguins alumni game.
The date has been set for January 14t, 2017 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia.
“This game is a celebration of the past 50 years of Flyers Hockey,” Brad Marsh, president of the Flyers Alumni Association said on the Flyers web site. “To bring five decades’ worth of players and fans together to share in the one thing we all have in common – fiercely representing the orange and black – that’s not something that happens every day.”
The Flyers’ lineup will feature players from the 60’s through the 00’s.
Confirmed players include Bob Clarke, Bill Barber, Reggie Leach, Bob Kelly, Orest Kindrachuk, Joe Watson, Jim Watson, Eric Lindros, John LeClair, Tim Kerr, Dave Poulin, Brian Propp, Murray Craven, Mark Howe, Brad Marsh, Kjell Samuelsson, Luke Richardson, Terry Carkner, Danny Briere, Simon Gagne, Eric Desjardins, and Brian Boucher.
Note: The Flyers also reported on Wednesday the passing of defenseman Bob Dailey at the age of 63. Dailey skated for Philadelphia for six seasons and was twice named an All-Star.
“Unfortunately, the Philadelphia Flyers lost another great player today with the passing of former defenseman Bob Dailey after a long battle with cancer,” Flyers President Paul Holmgren said on the Flyers web site. “Bob was an integral part of the 1979-80 Flyers team that had a 35-game unbeaten streak and played in the Stanley Cup Final that year. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.”
