Flyers outburst sends Detroit to another loss

PHILADELPHIA – Carter Hart made 32 saves and the Philadelphia Flyers worked their offense across the bench in a 6-1 win over the visiting Detroit Red Wings on Friday.

Sean Couturier and Scott Laughton had multi-point games with a goal each and an assist.

“It was a weird game,” Couturier said. “The score was 6-1, but I don’t think we played that great. It could have went one way or the other earlier in the game. I know first period they were all over it.

“We got opportunities at the right time.”

The Red Wings are 0-6-2 in their last eight.

“This is our job, and we have to take pride in it,” forward Luke Glendening said. “We know we have to be a lot better than this, and we need to keep working on that. This is unacceptable.”

Detroit has been outscored 19-2 in their last four games.

“I thought this game was light years better than our (6-0 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday),” Detroit head coach Jeff Blashill said. “We played way faster and we did a lot of good things. We just can’t keep making the kind of mistakes that end up in the back of our net.”

Robby Fabbri scored the lone Wings goal.

Shayne Gostisbehere had a goal to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead at the end of the middle frame.

“I thought they were the better team for two periods,” Jacob Voracek said. “Obviously, they’ve got nothing to lose, and sometimes you have a little trouble with that, but you have to find a way to win the game.

“Kudos to us for doing that.”

Kevin Hayes and Oskar Lindblom scored in the first 57 seconds of the third period.

James van Riemsdyk also scored.

“It feels nice to get a bounce there and bury one,” van Riemsdyk said. “I thought we got stronger as the game went on, and we have to carry that over to tomorrow against a desperate (Montreal Canadiens) team.”

Calvin Pickard made 28 saves in the loss.

“I thought we played pretty well in the first two periods, and we were only down 2-1 before we gave one up in the final 10 seconds,” the Red Wings’ Frans Nielsen  said after the Flyers potted three goals in 69 seconds. ” We still felt we were in it, but then a minute into the third period it is 5-1, and the game is over. That just can’t happen.”
