Flyers no match for Pens in 4-1 loss Flyers skid hits nine

PHILADELPHIA – The Pittsburgh’s Ryan Poehling hit for a double in the middle frame on Friday to help the Penguins to a 4-1 win over the Flyers.

Marcus Pettersson #28 of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Nicolas Deslauriers #44 of the Philadelphia Flyers earn fighting majors in the second period.

Tristan Jarry made 29 saves in the Pens win.

“I just think we’re playing a more complete game,” Penguins coach Mike Sullivan said. “I feel like we’re playing a more conscientious game. We haven’t given up as many odd-man rushes. We’ve cut down on some of the easy offense that that we may have been given to our opponents earlier in the year. … I just give the players a lot of credit.”

Kevin Hayes was the lone goal scorer for the Flyers, his strike came in the third period to break up Jarry’s shutout bid.

“I just thought we were flat,” Flyers coach John Tortorella said. “I was really happy with how we started the game. I thought we were flat. … I just don’t think we had much juice tonight.”

The Flyers dropped to 7-9-5, and have lost nine straight, 0-6-3.

Josh Archibald scored in the fist period to stake the Pens to an early 1-0 lead.

Teddy Blueger kicked in three assists in the Pens win.

“He’s just a good two-way center-iceman,” Sullivan said. “He’s got an offensive dimension to his game, but he’s a real conscientious defensive center-iceman. … He has great awareness away from the puck and his offensive game I think is getting better and better with each game that he plays. So, I just think he’s a real important player for us.”

Sidney Crosby pushed the lead to 2-0 in the same frame.

Carter Hart got the start for Philadelphia, and made 17 saves, yielding all four Pittsburgh goals.

Felix Sandstrom entered the game in the second period and made eight saves in in a mop up role.

“It’s easy to be negative and point fingers, but it hasn’t happened in this room,” he said. “We’re hoping to end the streak soon. I feel like I’ve been part of too many of those here, and hopefully tomorrow it ends.”
