PHILADELPHIA – The Flyers hosted the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday night and treated them poorly as guests.

In the third period a shot by Jakub Voracek #93 of the Philadelphia Flyers beat Matiss Kivlenieks #80 of the Columbus Blue Jackets
Kevin Hayes opened the scoring for Philadelphia as they built a 3-0 advantage into the second period and defeated the Jackets, 5-1.
“I honestly don’t think it was one of our best games,” Hayes said. “Obviously the score doesn’t say that, but we should be better next game. I know we scored five goals, but I think we definitely didn’t have our A-game. We got some puck luck, and it’s a huge two points.”
Carter Hart made 28 saves in the win.
Oliver Bjorkstrand scored the lone goal for Columbus.

“We need to funnel pucks (to the net),” Columbus head coach John Tortorella said. “We made too many extra plays. … I don’t think we played a bad game, certainly not a 5-1 game, but we need to continue to remind ourselves how we have to play the game.”
The Blue Jackets are 0-3-3 in their last six.
Sean Couturier pushed the Flyers lead to 2-0 in the first period.
“We tried to get some forecheck going, put pressure on their [defensemen],” Couturier said. “I think we capitalized on our chances.”
Philippe Myers made it 3-0 before the Jackets broke through in the second period.
“We tried to get some forecheck going, put pressure on their [defensemen],” Couturier said. “I think we capitalized on our chances.”
Travis Konecny and Jakob Voracek scored in the third.

Elvis Merzlikins got the start, but was given the hook after making just eight saves and surrendering four goals.
“It was a hard start to the game,” Merzlikins said. “The first one bouncing from the skate and my head. The second one, he came out in a breakaway and loses the puck. It was weird goals.”
