Flyers lose, drop to 0-2 in series

The Flyers were outclassed and outmatched in every aspect of the contest with Washington in Game 2 of the opening round series.

The result was a 4-1 loss dropping the Flyers into an 0-2 hole heading home next week.

2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs logoBraden Holtby made 41 saves for the win.

The loss came on the heels of a difficult 2-0 loss in the first game of the series.

John Carlson, Jason Chimera, Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom were Washington’s goal scorers.

Carlson and Ovechkin scored on the two power play opportunities that Washington was presented.

Jakub Voracek was the lone goal scorer for the Flyers in a game that that Philadelphia thought they may have done better.

Steve Mason made 19 saves in the loss and flubbed a tip into the zone from Chimera in the second period.  The puck ticked in off Chimera’s stick on an innocent looking play but Mason failed to put his stick down to cover up the five-hole.

The goal did not cost the Flyers the game but did take wind out of their sails having held Washington to a 1-0 lead to that point.

Game 3 is in Philadelphia on Monday night.
