PHILADELPHIA – The Flyers lost their 12th straight game on Monday night. this time it was at the hands of the Dallas Stars in 3-1 decision.
Jacob Robertson and Joe Pavelski scored in the third period after the teams skated to a 1-1 tie after 40 minutes of play.
“Jacob is sneaky good,” Stars head coach Rick Bowness said. “You watch him get the puck and he hangs onto the puck and he tries to make plays. He doesn’t panic with it, he’s very good with it, his head is up. He’s a smart hockey player. That’s one thing we noticed form the first day of training camp, he has great hockey sense and I love his poise with the puck.”
The Stars improved to 21-16-2.
Jake Oettinger made 26 saves in the Dallas win.
“I think I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous,” Oettinger said. “Everyone has a conscious and they get those bad thoughts that sneak into your head. I had those today. Just tried to block those out. End of the day I’m playing in the NHL, it’s a dream come true. Just want to have fun and go out there and lay it all out there and see what happens. … They scored a weird one, thought maybe it could be another one of those nights, not getting the bounces, but we shut it down real well in the third and feels really good right now.”
Philadelphia fell to 13-21-8.
“We had some opportunities in the offensive zone,” Philadelphia coach Mike Yeo said. “We didn’t have enough of those opportunities. I think there’s still some opportunities that were there that we’re missing the net. We’re not shooting and those pucks … could turn into a secondary opportunity. The goal that we scored, it’s just throwing a puck into the blue paint and I certainly think that we could do a lot more of that. You have to have that mindset.
“We’ve got some skilled players out of the lineup so we have to have a little bit more of a score a dirty goal mindset and obviously when it’s time to execute, you have a chance to make the play and you got to be able to not give into the pressure or squeeze a stick too tight.”
The Flyers are 0-9-3 on their current skid.
Ivan Provorov was the lone striker for the Flyers, his second period goal tied the game, 1-1.
“I thought we played a pretty solid game,” Provorov said. “Like the previous games we just aren’t able to find a way to score more than two goals. … We’ll get out of this eventually and hopefully it’s going to be tomorrow.”
Roope Hintz hit for a goal in the first period to stake the Stars to the early 1-0 lead.
Pavelski sealed the win with an empty-net goal for the 3-1 final.
Carter Hart made 32 saves in the Flyers loss.
The Flyers’ Keith Yandle tied the record for consecutive games by playing in his 964th straight game.
“Your teammates, the guys that you play with, guys that you play against, when they congratulate you and tell you they’re proud of you. It hits home,” Yandle said.
