PHILADELPHIA – James van Riemsdyk struck for two goals on Thursday night and the Flyers routed the visiting Buffalo Sabres, 6-1.
The Flyers built a 6-0 lead through the second period.
Carter Hart made 16 saves in the win.
“Obviously now some pucks are going in,” van Riemsdyk said. “I’d like to think I was doing a lot of good things the first half of the year. For whatever reason pucks weren’t going in, but now want to keep it rolling here.”
Victor Olofsson spoiled the shutout bid with a third period goal for the Sabres.
“Nobody played a good game tonight and that’s frustrating,” Buffalo’s Kyle Okposo said. “Losing Jack right before the game, that’s a time for guys to step up and nobody did it.”
Mikhail Vorobyev, Ivan Provorov and Matt Niskanen scored for the Flyers.
“It was a big win,” said Tyler Pitlick, who haf a goal in the win . “Every point is important. … We got a lot of goals and we got them from a lot of different people too. So that’s huge for everyone’s confidence and going into the next game and hopefully we’ll keep rolling.”
