After a scoreless extra session, the Flyers got a big effort from Claude Giroux in the skills competition on a deke.

“That was pretty unbelievable,” Flyers center Sean Couturier said. “Shows his skill and how good he is. We’re kind of used to seeing that in practice but it’s pretty unbelievable to see it in an actual game.”

Travis Konecny  also scored for the Flyers in regulation.

“They have world-class players on the ice,” Islanders coach Jack Capuano said. “They have six to our four, and it comes off the end wall and they get a bounce.”

John Tavares and Dennis Seidenberg were the Isles’ goal scorers.

Michal Neuvirth had 25 saves for the win and Jaroslav Halak took the loss on 40 saves.

“This was a really good game for us. Maybe one of the best of the year. Playing hard and played a full game, a full 60 minutes,” the Flyers Travis Konecny said after the game.
