PHILADELPHIA – The Flyers’ Alex Lyon made 33 saves to backstop them to a 4-3 win over the New York Rangers Thursday night.
Travis Konecny struck twice in the win as the Flyers kept pace in the Metropolitan Division.
“I’m trying to do the little things,” Konecny said. “Watched a lot of video on going to the net, keeping things simple, chipping pucks in. It’s the way you have to play, and right now things are working for us.”
The Flyers improved to improved to 38-25-12.
“We were just sporadic today,” Flyers head coach Dave Hakstol said. “The first three, four minutes of the game, we weren’t sharp and crisp, and the last 15, 16 minutes, we played really well. From there, we were sporadic though the next 20, 25 minutes. Then we got back on our heels in the last part of the third period. There’s things that we’ll have to clean up and do a little bit better. But the bottom line is the two points at the end of the night, and we move on.”
Jakub Voracek and Oskar Lindblom also scored for the Flyers.
Jesper Fast scored two goals and Mika Zibanejad added a single marker in the loss.
“Today I was a little bit lucky to get some goals and points. That’s fun. But was zero points for the team so that’s a fail,” Fast sad.

“Thought there was a lot of fight and compete on our team tonight,” Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault said. “We got down, we battled to come back. Made it a one-goal game in the second, made it a one-goal game after they scored early in the third. Our guys competed, but we came up short.”
They trail the second wild card spot by 10 points and are effectively out of the race.
