Flyers get back to winning with 4-3 victory over Detroit

PHILADELPHIA – The Flyers got back on the winning track Wednesday night with a solid 4-3 win over the visiting Detroit Red Wings.

The Flyers trailed 2-1 and 3-2 in the game and needed a two-goal rally to finally get the win.

Brian Elliott made 25 saves to get the win.

Claude Giroux kicked in three assists in the win.

“This year right from Day One he’s been at a real high level,” Flyers head coach Dave Hakstol said. “You look at his energy level, his compete level. The compete level has never changed in my opinion. But the energy level and his ability to get where he wants to go and be in on the fight seems to be and has been at a high level all year.”

Wayne Simmonds, Sean Couturier, Dale Weise and Robert Hagg struck for the Flyers’ goals.

“I was just closing my eyes and hoping for the best. When I looked up and saw the puck go in, there was a lot of emotions coming out,” Hagg, said of his first NHL goal.

Mike Green, Gustav Nyquist and Martin Frk scored for Detroit.

“I thought we did have guys play lots of minutes the past two nights,” Detroit head coach Jeff Blashill said. “It seemed like we didn’t have as much push as we needed to have.”

Jimmy Howard took the loss on 27 saves.

“I thought that maybe we weren’t really strong on our pucks at certain times and that cost us one goal there. Then you’ve got to tip the hat to them. They made some nice plays for their goals. You try to prescout and do everything, but sometimes they make plays, there’s nothing you can do,” Detroit’s Henrik Zetterberg said after the loss.
