PHILDELPHIA – There are ways to play out a schedule and the Columbus Blue Jackets are not doing it right way these days.
On Saturday, the Jackets lost their sixth straight game, this time to the Flyers, 4-2.
“It’s not one of those things where you can say we’re in the playoffs Wednesday, we’re playing and we can just flip [the switch] and expect to win,” Columbus’ Cam Atkinson said. “We have to play the way that we always played the whole season and we’ve gotten away from it.”
While the panic button is not really necessary, the Blue Jackets need to reverse the trend as they prepare for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the fist round of the playoffs on Wednesday.
“We’re hopefully going to play a really solid game tomorrow (Sunday),” Atkinson said. “Get that winning feeling back, our mojo. We’ve got to play with arrogance. … We’ve got some skill, but for the most part we need to play with a chip on our shoulder.”
Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, Michael Del Zotto, Jakub Voracek and Ivan Provorov struck for Flyers goals.
“The only thing we can take is we didn’t play like this when it most mattered,” Bellemare said. “We have to find a way to be better and play like this next season when it matters.”
Steve Mason made 20 saves to pick up the win.
“Potentially this being the last game of the season for myself, beating a former team, and have that be No. 200 win, that’s pretty special,” Mason said of the 200th NHL career win.
Seth Jones and Boone Jenner scored for the Jackets.

Sergei Bobrovsky made 20 saves in taking the loss.
“We can’t let panic come into our game. We’ve got to stay more composed than anything, more composed in our game. When we start panicking, you see what happens. It’s not pretty. The more composed we are … we know what we can do, we know how to do it. It’s a matter of execution,” Jones said after the loss.
