In Las Vegas, the Philadelphia Flyers found a win on Friday night.
After a 10-game skid that seemingly got uglier as it progressed, the Flyers defeated the Golden Knights, 4-3.
Carter Hart made 41 saves in the Flyers win.
“We’re all out there to win,” Hart said. “We’re doing whatever it takes to win. Sometimes that’s what it takes is to lay down in front of the puck, put your body in front and sacrifice your body for the better of the team.”
Kevin Hayes scored his second of the season to give the Flyers an early 1-0 lead.
For Mike Yeo, t was his first win since replacing Alain Vigneault as bench boss.
“It was a great effort,” Yeo said. “When you’re going through something that we’re going through, the hardest thing is to deal with the emotion. We knew it wasn’t going to be perfect, especially against a team like that, a team of that caliber.”
Max Willman had a goal for the Flyers, his first NHL hit.
Max Pacioretty hit for a pair of goals for the Knights.
Vegas dropped to 15-11-0.
With the score tied, 2-2, heading to the third, the Flyers struck for a pair of power play goals from Sean Couturier and James van Riemsdyk to take a 4-2 lead.
“We’ve got to find ways to kill penalties. We’ve got to be committed to blocking shots, winning faceoffs, getting the puck 200 feet,” the Golden Knights’ Mark Stone said. “We’ve got to be a little more aggressive. Teams are outworking us.”
William Karlsson had a single marker for the Knights.
“I think special teams was the difference in the game,” Hart said. “Power play had two goals there, and PK we just shut them down all night. That was definitely the difference maker.”
Laurent Brossoit made 21 saves in the Vegas loss.
“I think we just refocused, came with a fresh mindset and battled hard,” Couturier said. “We had, I think, better support throughout all three zones and created a few chances off of that.”
