Flyers edge Canucks, 3-2

Two teams needing points in their respective conference races met in Vancouver Sunday with the Philadelphia Flyers benefitting from a three-assist night from Shayne Gostisbehere  in a 3-2 win over the Canucks.

Wayne Simmonds, Jakub Voracek and Brayden Schenn scored off Gostisbehere assists.

“He had his confidence and a little bit of swagger,” Simmonds said. “[Gostisbehere] has had his ups and downs this year but he’s a heck of a player and has unbelievable skill. He can be a catalyst offensively for us.”

The Flyers improved to 28-24-7 with the win.

Two of the Flyers goals came on the power play.

“The puck was going in,” Gostisbehere said. “A different look on the [power play] helps a little bit.”

Michal Neuvirth made 18 saves for the win.

“I felt good. I have been practicing well and playing with confidence. The last game, it didn’t work out. I put that one behind me and restarted my mind and got back to work tonight,” Neuvirth said.

The Canucks head to their mandatory break and they could use a refit having only three wins in 11 games.

“Our specialty teams let us down,” Canucks head coach Willie Desjardins said.

Markus Granlund and Jannik Hansen scored for Vancouver who dropped to 26-28-6.

Ryan Miller made 25 saves in the loss.

The Canucks were coming off a road trip and looed slow most of the night but did give an effort.

“They had lots of energy tonight. Their rest was a difference for them. You could see they had good legs. I thought our guys played hard coming off that road trip,” Desjardins said.
