Flyers edge Bruins, 3-2, on late strike Foerster wins it late in third for Flyers

“He’s been fighting it a little bit,” Flyers coach John Tortorella said. “I think he’s been playing really well. But those guys need to score goals, they need to see the puck go in the net. He’s had some chances that he’s missed, and I think that kind of doubles up on him because he cares. It’s a really important time for him, for me anyway, for him to lead the proper way. … When you get down to crunch time here, it’s a really important time for him to understand that his actions can’t hurt the team as far as being a distraction. I think he’s done a pretty good job of that.”

The Bruins replied with a strike by Danton Heinen  less than a minute later to tie the game, 2-2.

The Flyers had one more response when  Tyson Foerster scored from the left circle with 1:29 left on the game clock for a 3-2 win.

“As he continues to get better, we’re only going to see more of that,” Konecny said. “It’s his first year … some of the things that he’s able to do, he’s going to be a really good player for a long time because of how he plays away from the puck. He does a lot of good things, and he gets rewarded for it.”

Samuel Ersson made 18 saves in the win.

The Flyers moved to 36-26-9.

After a scoreless first period, Konecny hit at 18:15 of the middle frame for a 1-0 lead to the Flyers headed to the third period.

Boston dropped to 41-16-15 off their second straight loss.

In the third period, Justin Brazeau  tied the game, 1-1, midway through the frame, scoring  from nearly inside the crease off a backhand.

“I think just the belief in this group, I don’t think at any point in the game did we think we were going to lose it,” Brazeau said. “I was pretty confident we would win throughout the game.”

Konecny scored his first of the period at 15:16 to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead.

“I try not to think about that,” Konecny said. “It’s awesome. I’m happy. But it’s just so important for us to stay focused on the end of the season and what the end goal is for us. I think truly right now no one cares about their personal stuff. You just have to get in [to the Stanley Cup Playoffs].”

Linus Ullmark made 26 saves in the loss.

“The effort was there from both sides,” the Bruins’ Andrew Peeke said. “That was a playoff-type game.”
