Flyers drop Isles in OT

PHILADELPHIA – The Flyers have had success against the New York Islanders, and this Sunday evening, they continued with a 4-3 win in overtime.

Joel Farabee had a hat trick in regulation for the Philadelphia Flyers

Kevin Hayes scored off the power play with 38 seconds left in the extra session for the win.

“Everyone knows that our 5-on-5 play hasn’t been great, but we’ve gotten two points in four consecutive games,” Hayes said. “Obviously you need to work on things when you’re not happy with your team play, but you can’t be too upset when you’re getting two points every single night.

“I thought tonight was our best 60-minute effort in a long time. I know we gave up a two-goal lead, but ultimately we didn’t break and we won again in overtime.”

Brian Elliott made 33 saves to get the win.

Josh Bailey and Mathew Barzal rallied the Isles back from a 1-3 deficit in the third period to push the game to the extra session.

“I’m taking the positive out of it,” New York head coach Barry Trotz said. “We’re sitting there after two periods and [with] the way the week has gone we could’ve just said, ‘let’s get out of here’ and give up. We didn’t. We battled back. I thought they uplifted each other. I felt we were going to get two points, I really did.”

Joel Farabee picked up his first NHL hat trick for all three regulation goals for the Flyers.

“I feel really good about my game right now,” Farabee said.

Nick Leddy also had a goal for New York.

“We had a pretty good response to find a way to tie that game up,” the Isles’ Anders Lee said. “It wasn’t as complete game as we would have liked, but at the end of the day we climb out of a hole that we dug ourselves in and found ourselves with an opportunity to get that second point.”

Ilya Sorokin made 25 saves in the loss.
