PHILADELPHIA – Travis Konecny and Jakub Voracek scored in the third period to give the Flyers a 4-2 lead over the Montreal Canadiens Thursday night and broke open a tight game en route to a 5-3 win.

Right Wing Brendan Gallagher (#11) of the Montreal Canadiens scores against Goalie Brian Elliot (#37) of the Philadelphia Flyers.
“The two (standings) points is probably what stands out for me,” Konecny said. “They’re huge this time of year. I heard the [New York] Islanders and [New Jersey Devils] lost, so it’s big for us tonight. Just got to keep going, keep building.”
The Flyers hold down the first wild card spot in the Eastern Conference.
Konecny had two goals in the win and Claude Giroux added a single marker.
The Flyers improved to 26-19-9 with the win.
Artturi Lehkonen, Logan Shaw and Brendan Gallagher struck for the Habs in the loss.

“All the help we can get,” Elliott said. “… If we keep packing on the two points, we’ll put ourselves in a good spot.”
Ivan Provorov closed out the scoring with assist from Elliot.

Carey Price made 23 saves in taking the loss.
“We would’ve liked to be a little bit better on the [penalty kill]. It would’ve been nice if I could’ve come up with a couple of key saves. That probably would’ve been the difference,” Price said after the loss.
