Flyers down Boston in OT

In Boston, the Philadelphia Flyers got some relief with an win over the Bruins on Monday.

Brian Elliott got the win in Boston for the Philadelphia Flyers

Travis Sanheim potted the game-winner with 3:08 gone in overtime to defeat the Bruins, 3-2.

“I think we knew it was a big game coming in, so obviously a pretty big goal,” Sanheim said. “Needed to get the two points. Would’ve loved to get it in regulation, but we got the two points nonetheless. So it was a good team win. Felt good to get that one.”

Brian Elliott made 27 saves to get the win.

“I would say coming back in the NHL when you’re down after two is extremely hard,” Philadelphia head coach Alain Vigneault said. “It’s a tough league. Coming back against the Bruins is probably an even bigger task with the veteran group that they have there and the experience. It’s a challenge. Our power play came up big for us at the right time.”

After Travis Konecny scored to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead, Karson Kuhlman knotted the game at 1-1.

“It was nice to get that one,” Konecny said. “Honestly, I’ve just been trying to play the right way and play hard. And you know, it’s so cliche, but if you just keep working and doing things, working hard for your linemates … it’s a matter of time before a bounce will go your way.”

Patrice Bergeron scored off the power play in the middle frame to give the Bruins a 2-1 lead.

Sean Couturier got the Flyers even at 2-2 with just under seven minutes gone in the third period.  His goal came off the power play.

“That hurt us obviously,” Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy said. “It was the only chance we gave up in the third period. Found the back of the net, good shot, through a screen. Unfortunately, overtime, we had couple of pucks on our stick that we weren’t able to get to the net or get past the goalie, and they did.”

Dan Vladar made 29 saves in the loss.

“Unfortunately, it just wasn’t enough today,” Vladar said. “We got the point, but me personally, I’m pretty sure the whole locker room wanted the two. So a little disappointed, but we play these guys tomorrow, so I think that we are going to come back.”
