The road is being very kind to the Philadelphia Flyers this week. One game after snapping a 10-game skid, the Flyers won their second straight, 4-2, over the Edmonton Oilers.
The game was a feature between two clubs having trouble gaining any traction but it was the Flyers who managed consecutive wins for only the second time this season.
Jordan Weal, Dale Weise, Michael Raffl and Wayne Simmonds had the strikes for the win.

“It definitely feels good [to score], definitely the way we played too, it’s a pretty complete effort from our team,” Weise said. “Getting contributions from everyone, it’s going to be huge if we want to keep stringing some wins together. I really liked the way we played the last two games, we made some adjustments through the neutral zone and we’re really clogging teams up, they’re not coming with as much speed and we’re getting out of our zone a little cleaner.”
Brian Elliott made 24 saves to get the win as the Flyers travel across Canada.
“We talked about it. These aren’t our fans out here, we don’t have to entertain them, we just have to come away with the two points. We are playing that good road-style hockey. When you have nothing, you have to get it in deep and live to fight another day, and I think our guys are really buying into that right now,” Elliott said after the win.
Philadelphia improved to 10-11-7.
Meanwhile the Oilers are adrift in the Pacific Division and are unable to find any consistency to their game.
Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins had the Oilers goals.
“We can’t seem to start two good games in a row, it is setting us back,” Draisaitl said. “We always have to come back in games and it takes a lot of energy to do that. I thought we had some good looks in the third, but couldn’t capitalize. Credit to them, they played a good game.”
Nothing seems to be going right for Edmonton as their power play was scoreless in two chances and one shot on goal.
“Our power play was on the ice for four minutes tonight and got one puck to the goalie’s pad, that’s disappointing,” Oilers head coach Todd McLellan said. “Their power play got nine shots in twice that amount of time. They looked dangerous and we didn’t.”

Laurent Brossoit made 29 saves in taking the loss.
“We knew they were a desperate team, they were in a tough spot coming in here. We knew we had to be on our toes to get two points. It was not our best game, we didn’t have enough desperation. These are two points that don’t come back later. It’s tough,” the Oilers’ Oscar Klefbom said after the dismal loss.
