PHILADELPHIA – Consistency has been a rare commodity this season in the NHL and for the Philadelphia Flyers.
In an example of steady play, the Flyers posted two goals in each period Saturday afternoon in a 6-3 thumping of the St Louis Blues.

Defenseman Robert Haag (#8) of the Philadelphia Flyers defends his Goalie Brian Elliot (#37) as Left Wing Alexander Steen (#20) and Center Paul Stastny (#26) of the St Louis Blues look for the puck to rebound.
Sean Couturier struck for two goals to lead the offense for the Flyers
Claud Giroux, Scott Laughton, Jordan Weal, and Wayne Simmonds added single markers in the win.
“You don’t want to overthink it too much, just want to go out there and play well for your team,” Giroux said. “Just try to do what you do best. That’s one thing with this team, guys really focus on what they do best and just go out there and do it.”
It was something of a downhill track meet for the Flyers as they mounted a seemingly endless number of odd-man rushes in the match.
“I thought that we weren’t tight in our game today,” Blues head coach Mike Yeo said. “I thought that when we’re on top of our game we’re tight, we’re in their face, we stop speed before it starts and tonight we just let them come at us.”
Brian Elliott made 28 saves to pick up the win.
St Louis closed to within 4-1 after 40 minutes of play and then posted a goal just 12 seconds into the third.
“That’s not the way you want to start a period,” Flyers head coach Dave Hakstol said. “Sloppy play off the opening face-off. … They made a play, they got one goal, but nobody got rattled, nobody panicked. We went back at it and played.”
But the Flyers tacked two more n the final frame to put distance between themselves and the Blues.
Ivan Barbashev, Paul Stastny and Colton Parayko scored for St Louis.
Jake Allen made 33 saves in taking the loss.
“We didn’t come out in the first period well. Even the first two periods we weren’t getting to our game. They scored a couple of goals in the first and in the second, again a couple of breakdowns. You can’t be trying to come back from 4-0, it’s too good of a League. We waited too long today,” Allen said after the loss.

Center Ivan Barbashev (#49) of the St Louis Blues score his first goal of the season against Goalie Brian Elliot (#37) of the Philadelphia Flyers.

Center Sean Couturier (#14) of the Philadelphia Flyers score his 20th goal of the season during the second period Saturday afternoon against the St Louis Blues.

Center Travis Konecny (#11) of the Philadelphia Flyers reaches for the puck against Defenseman Jay Bouwmeester (#19) of the St Louis Blues as Goalie Jake Allen (#34) hugs the post.
