Fleury, Vegas blank Canes 3-0

The Golden Knights got themselves a little confidence boost Saturday when Marc-Andre Fleury made 34 saves in a 3-0 win over the Carolina Hurricanes in Vegas.

“It felt like it took me a little while to get there. Nice to round it up,” Fleury said. “I think it’s always good to get those wins, get those shutouts because of the way the team plays. It was a great game for our team. It’s a good feeling, but we’ve got to keep it going.”

The Knights scored in each period on goals from Brad Hunt, Ryan Reaves and William Carrier.

“To get two points today and play the way we did, it proves to ourselves that we can play this way,” Hunt said. “It’s huge to get this positive momentum going into the road trip. I think it’s a good thing.”

The Knights improved to 6-7-1 with the win and snapped a two-game skid.

The Hurricanes are now 6-6-2 after a fast start to the season.

“We always try to play the same way,” Hurricanes forward Justin Williams said. “We had a decent start but we’ve got to keep pushing. At the same time, we let them get to two and get to three, and it makes it a lot more tough.”

Carolina is 0-3-1 in their four games.

“Tonight was probably … the game I didn’t like the most out of all of them,” Hurricanes coach Rod Brind’Amour said. “There wasn’t a lot going on for either team, but we’ve got to find ways to put the puck in the net, and that’s been the challenge.”

Scott Darling made 22 saves in the loss.

“I don’t think either team did much in front of the net. I didn’t see them getting in front of the net. They got the better of us. That early goal in the first put us on our heels, and we weren’t able to get one by Fleury,” Brind’Amour said after another for the Canes.
