PHILADELPHIA – The Vegas Golden Knights have had their issues this season but some of the bad taste was washed away with a 1-0 win over the Flyers in Philadelphia Saturday.
Marc-Andre Fleury made 26 saves to get t shutout, his 49th career shutout.
“Few more smiles going home. Long flight. Still only got four points on this trip so it’s not ideal, but our game is improving a bit over the course of this road trip. Just got to keep getting better,” Fleury said after the win.
Cody Eakin provided the only offense in the game with a goal with 85 seconds left in regulation.
“Nice going home after a trip like this on a win,” Eakin said. “We didn’t get as many wins as we would have liked (2-3-0) but it makes it a more positive feeling.”
The contest was back and forth with not many scoring chances for either side.
 chances for either side.
“We had a lot of scoring chances we didn’t capitalize offensively. We created some chances and we’ve got to stick to what we’re doing. It’s going to come,” the Flyers forward Sean Couturier said. “We’re going to score a few goals next game if we do the same thing. Offensively we were good, defensively we were pretty tight. [The penalty kill] did a good job. Just little mistakes at the end that cost us big time.”
There was energy and and will in the game to keep the Flyers’ bench boss pleased with the effort despite the loss.
“We played a [heck] of a game today,” Flyers coach Dave Hakstol said. “It stinks walking away with nothing to show for it. You don’t get moral points for a loss but we played a [heck] of a hockey game today. Not much there I’d want to change. … This is one of those nights, tip my hat to Fleury in net.
“They made a play late in the hockey game and it hurts like [heck] to walk out of here with nothing.”
