Fleury, Knights blank Oilers

In Las Vegas, the Golden Knights’  Marc-Andre Fleury made 29 saves to earn his fifth shutout of the season in a 3-0 win over the Edmonton Oilers.

“He made some good saves. He’s a good goaltender,” Edmonton center Connor McDavid said. “I really liked our first period. We had some chances. … that’s the way it goes sometimes.”

It was a tight match until newly acquired Nick Cousins Shea Theodore struck for goals in the third period.

“The way our team has been playing, I think we’ve been more consistent, not giving up more scoring chances, and that makes me look better,” Fleury said. “It’s always about the team game.”

The Golden Knights have won seven straight.

“You want to play playoff hockey,” Cousins said. “You don’t want to go home in April and watch the others play playoff hockey. We’ve still got 17 games left, and this team is moving in the right direction and playing well lately. If I can contribute in any way I can, I’ll be more than happy to do that.”

Max Pacioretty scored his 30th to open the scoring in the first period.

“They definitely had some Grade A chances where [Fleury] made some unbelievable saves,” Pacioretty said. “That’s just [Fleury]. We see that often and when you leave him out to dry a couple of times like that, you definitely bear down a little more.”

Mikko Koskinen made 30 saves in the loss.

“They were the better team tonight. I don’t think it was just a hot goaltender,” McDavid said. “We’ll learn from it and move on.”
