Fleury, Golden Knights shut out Avs, 3-0

Apparently, the Vegas Golden Knights were not terribly pleased with being beaten in the Lake Tahoe game this past weekend, by the Colorado Avalanche.

On Monday night, Marc-Andre Fleury made 31 saves and the Knights handed the Avs a 3-0 loss in Denver.

“It was fun, I felt good today,” Fleury said. “We played in altitude, and sometimes when they buzz around the net, you breathe harder a bit, but it’s fun. I feel good. Everything’s holding up.”

It was Fleury’s third shutout of the season.

“It’s as good as I’ve seen him play,” Golden Knights head coach Peter DeBoer said. “Maybe the Stanley Cup year in the expansion year (2017-18). For me, he’s been dialed in right from training camp for us and really has consistently been our best player.”

Alex Tuch had two strikes for the Golden Knights.

“Tuch’s had a great year. He’s earned everything he’s got with hard work and coming prepared to have a good start to the season. He’s a really effective guy” DeBoer said, ” I liked him as much defensively tonight as I did offensively.

“With his speed defensively, he’s one guy that can really hunt down guys like MacKinnon from behind because he has that speed. I thought he was very effective defensively, as well as the two goals he kicked in for us.”

The Avs dropped to 9-5-1.

Colorado went with an empty-net midway through the third period, but Jonathan Marchessault scored  to ice the win for Vegas.

“The message to Colorado was that we can play with them,” DeBoer said. “There was some question after the first three games of the series whether we could. We were looking for a response that way, and I thought we got that. Guys were committed right from the start tonight.”

Philipp Grubauer made 25 saves in the loss.

“We had some chances, we just didn’t capitalize on them,” the Avalanche’s Cale Makar said. “Obviously, Fleury’s always going to have a good night, and you have to be prepared for that, but I think this one lies on us more than anything. We made some mistakes, especially me personally, and we definitely have to tighten up in the [defensive] zone a little bit.”
