In St Louis, the Calgary’s Dillon Dube hit for a double in the third period to help the Flames to a 4-1 win over the Blues on Thursday night.
Dube snapped a 1-1 tie with his first goal and bookended a strike from Blake Coleman in the third for the 4-1 final.
Dan Vladar made 25 saves for the Flames win.
“You need saves. That’s the way the League is, big saves and timely goals, and our team … is not, like, an explosive team,” Flames coach Darryl Sutter said. “We all got to play the same way to give ourselves a chance to win.”
The Flames moved to 20-14-9.
Jake Neighbours was the lone striker for the Blues, his goal tied the game, 1-1, early in the third.
“I think we couldn’t get our forecheck going, couldn’t stop them from breaking out pucks,” Neighbours said. “Obviously a few costly mistakes end up in the back of your net. Obviously, you’d like the game to swing in a different way after that one. We just couldn’t get her going.”
St Louis dropped to 21-19-3.
“Two bad puck plays in the third period. That’s it,” Blues coach Craig Berube said. “Got to make the right play, put it on the walls, can’t go up the middle like that under pressure. Just two bad puck plays, and they capitalized on them. We’re right in the game.”
Calgary took a 1-0 lead in the first period on Walker Duehr‘s first career NHL goal.
“Yeah, I think I blacked out,” Duehr said. “It was a pretty cool feeling and something you dream of, so it was pretty cool.”
Thomas Greiss made 36 saves in the St Louis loss.
“Obviously a good goal to start the (third) period for sure,” Blues defenseman Colton Parayko said. “Gave us the momentum, but they obviously answered and got a couple there. Obviously a tough one … had it tied up early on in the third, but just had to regroup and keep going.”
