On Sunday night in Calgary, the Flames turned the tables on the Arizona Coyotes and scored three shorthanded goals in a 6-1 victory.
Noah Hanifin and Mark Jankowski struck for two goals each in the win.
“We’re deep and we’ve got a lot of guys who can put the puck in the net,” Flames defenseman Travis Hamonic said. “We’re a team that works well as a group when we’ve got confidence. It comes from game to game and play to play. We see one line get rolling and the one after that wants to follow.”
Mike Smith made 28 saves for the Flames.
“We had a good start and we progressed as the game went on and started playing faster and faster,” Hanifin said.
Clayton Keller had the lone goal for the Coyotes who dropped to 9-11-2.
“Some guys have got to start playing,” Coyotes coach Rick Tocchet said. “We need some of the high-level guys to play. They’ve got to be able to play.”
Calgary improved to 14-9-1.
“We got contributions throughout the lineup and we ended up with three shorthanded goals, which was unusual, and the penalty kill was good. We’ve got a good group and like our team,” Flames head coach Bill Peters said after the win.
TJ Brodie and Sean Monahan also scored for the Flames.
“We knew we wanted to come out hard for the start and get all four lines going,” Brodie said. “We have that kind of depth and to have everybody going, it feels pretty good. We created some turnovers and got to go the other way pretty quickly,”

Antti Raanta who got the start, yielded all six goals in the loss and 22 saves befroe getting the hook in the third period.
Adin Hill made one save in relief.
“The power play is horrendous. It has really cost us,” Tocchet said. “The effort on the power play is not there. This power play is killing us, especially the last five, six games. We’ve got to rectify it.”
Arizona has lost four straight and eight of their last 10 games.
“I think we have a group that’s maybe lost a little bit of its swagger. It’s really difficult to work hard when you’re frustrated. I think we sometimes don’t work as smart as we need to throughout the game. I don’t know what the exact direct answer is to get back on track,” the Coyotes’ Derek Stepan said.
