Flames snuffed out in Sunrise, 5-1 Tarasenko scores double in win

In Sunrise, the Panthers scored four goals in the middle frame, including two from Vladimir Tarasenko in a 5-1 win over the Calgary Flames.

“I am not going to lie. It is nice and kind of a relief,” Tarasenko said. “It is to kind of understand your linemates and how the team plays a little bit more. I felt more comfortable as the game went on.”

Tarasenko opened the scoring 23 seconds gone in the middle frame for a 1-0 lead to the Panthers.

Yegor Sharangovich was the lone striker for the Flames, his power play goal at 5:51 of the second tied the game, 1-1.

Calgary dropped to 31-27-5.

“That is one of the better teams, if not the best team, right now in the League,” Calgary coach Ryan Huska said of Florida. “We liked our first period, but we gave one up early in the second and that allowed their transition game [to get] going a little more than we would have liked.”

Kevin Stenlund scored a shorthanded goal at 4:33 of the third for a the 5-1 final count on the scoreboard.

Jacob Markstrom made 26 saves in the loss.

“We turned the puck over too much, and they are a highly skilled team and took over on transition,” the Flames’ Mikael Backlund said. “We got away from our game in the second, started giving pucks away.”
