Flames sear Ducks, 3-2, in OT

In Anaheim, Rasmus Andersson hit for the game-winner midway through extra time on Friday in a 3-2 win for the Calgary Flames over the Ducks.

“They had a couple of tired guys out there, and we managed to capitalize,” Andersson said. “Now, we have a couple days off and enjoy Christmas with friends and family. Then, we get back to it.”

Jacob Markstrom made 21 saves in the Calgary win.

The Flames improved to 16-12-7.

Mason McTavish and Jakob Silfverberg  were the Ducks’ strikers in the game. Both goals came off the power play and tied the game twice, 1-1. and 2-2..

“I think we kind of came out a little bit slow,” McTavish said. “I’m not really too sure why that was, but credit to [the Flames]; they came out hard and were competing. I think we kind of turned it on more in the second half (of the first period) and got a couple power plays.”

Calgary’s Michael Stone  scored in the first period for a 1-0 lad to the Flames.

The Flames recaptured the lead in the second period, after McTavish has tied the game in the first on a two skater advantage.

Brett Ritchie scored to give the Flames a 2-1 lead.

Silfverberg tied it, 2-2, early in the third on the second power play strike.

Lukas Dostal made 42 saves in the Ducks loss. It was his fifth straight start since being called up from the San Diego Gulls of the American Hockey League, he has a 0.926  save percentage.

“He has been super solid ever since he got into the lineup with us,” Silfverberg said of Dostal. “I think it’s the start of a big career for him.”
