In Seattle, the Kraken let one get away from them on Monday when the Calgary Flames’ Andrew Mangiapane scored at 15:53 of the third period to tie the game, 3-3, eventually forcing an extra session.
In extra time, Rasmus Andersson hit for the game-winner at 3:28 for a 4-3 win for the Flames.
“I felt like I had [Daccord] on the wraparound [just before the goal],” Andersson said. “I felt like he was very far out, and I went for the wraparound, and he kind of just bounced back. And then I saw him scrambling, I just threw it at the net, and it went in.”
The Flames improved to 7-8-3.
“There was ebbs and flows, that’s for sure,” Flames coach Ryan Huska said. “Good first period, awful second period, great third period. It was nice to get a win in overtime.”
Dan Vladar made 28 saves in the win.
Calgary has won three of its last four games, going 3-0-1.
The Flames took a 1-0 lead in the opening stanza on a strike by Elias Lindholm at 1:16.
Vince Dunn replied at 8:42 to tie the game, 1-1, for Seattle.
Seattle dropped to 7-8-5, but extended their own point streak to four games at 2-0-2.
“It’s a disappointing night tonight, so we’re not going to sit here and pat ourselves on the back,” Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. “It’s nice to see some chemistry continuing to grow, and that offensive piece is very important. … At the end of the day, it’s about getting that second extra point here tonight, and we didn’t do enough to get that.”
Jonathan Huberdeau then scored his fourth of the campaign at 11:40 off the power play to give the Flames a 2-1 lead.
“We put a lot of importance on good starts in first periods and trying to win your first periods,” Huska said. “We just slipped in the second period but found a way to get it back.”
Seattle replied with a pair of goals to take a 3-2 lead in the game.
Jordan Eberle scored just ahead of the midway point of the second period to tie it, 2-2.
Jared McCann put the Kraken up, 3-2 at 10:25 of the middle frame for a 3-2 lead headed to the third.
“We played gritty,” McCann said. “But we’ve got to learn from our mistakes here and learn how to finish games off.”
Seattle outshot the Flames 17-6 in the middle frame, but fell asleep in the third with the Flames turning the tables with a 16-3 shot advantage
Philipp Grubauer got the start for the Kraken, and surrendered two goals, making fives saves before leaving (for an injury) the ice in the first period.
Joey Daccord made 22 saves in relief.
