In Tampa, the on again off again Calgary Flames were on Thursday night in a 6-3 win over the Lightning.
Yegor Sharangovich hit for a double and four points in the win.
Jacob Markstrom made 19 saves in the win.
The Flames moved to 31-26-5 off their sixth win in seven games.
“I think we just outworked them,” the Flames’ Jonathan Huberdeau said. “That’s what we do when we play well, and I think that’s what we did tonight. It was a big win for us.”
Calgary took a 1-0 lead on a strike by Dryden Hunt at 11:40 of the opening stanza, scoring from in front off a pass below the goal line.
Connor Sheary knotted it, 1-1, for Tampa, at 14:28, scoring off a tap in.
“I think we gave up too much, too many opportunities to score,” Sheary said. “We came out in the first period a little slow from the little break we had and were just never able to recover fully. We have to have a short memory with so few games left. We have to move forward and get the next one.”
The Lightning dropped to 33-25-6, they one win in six games.
“Embarrassing is what [that] was,” Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said. “We haven’t played since last Saturday (a 4-3 shootout win against the Montreal Canadiens). They had time away from the rink, some time together, a couple of practices. … We couldn’t have laid it out more perfect for them to come out and put on a great show for the fans, and they did the complete opposite.”
Sharangovich potted his first of the night at 6:11 of the middle frame for a 2-1 lead to the Flames, scoring low on the right side.
“Not much was going through my head,” Huberdeau said. “I had a feeling he was going to be there. I kind of just threw it there and got a little lucky. It was a big goal for us.”
Sharangovich picked up his double for a 3-1 advantage to Calgary at 8:34.
“First, it’s a good win for the team,” Sharangovich said. “Four points. … Good passes by ‘Hubie’ on the first goal, second goal it’s Matty [Coronato]. I think we had a good guy. With Hubie, it’s really nice to play with him because you know if you’ll be open he’ll pass it to you.”
Calgary ballooned the lead to 4-1 on a strike by Jakob Pelletier midway through the second.
“It means a lot,” Pelletier said. “The past five months were kind of tough. You just try to help the team win, and it feels good to score tonight.”
Tampa got one back with a marker form Anthony Cirelli at 12:29 for a 4-2 score.
In the third period, Calgary continued with the offense. Blake Coleman pushed the lead to 5-2 at 6:04.
“Blake was one of the guys that was pushing, he was edgy today,” Calgary coach Ryan Huska said. “And you see it rub off on other people. That’s why, pretty much to a man, everybody came to play today, which was great see. To me, it’s just work. I thought we were competitive, I thought we worked hard, and I thought we did a good job with our sticks in the detail of the game.”
Andrew Mangiapane hit an empty net at 12:17 for a 6-2 count to Calgary.
Tampa a so what goal from Michael Eyssimont at 14:35 for the 6-3 final count on the scoreboard.
“What we did tonight wasn’t good enough,” Tampa’s Nicholas Paul said. “Nothing we can do about it now, but I don’t think it’s acceptable.”
Andrei Vasilevskiy made 18 saves in the loss.
