The Calgary Flames would have preferred two points Saturday night in Vancouver but they’ll take the losers point in a 2-1 loss to the Canucks in extra time.
With the Los Angles Kings losing to the Florida Panthers Saturday, the Fames had a
chance to put a little more distance between themselves and the Kings.
Christopher Tanev scored in overtime to give the Canucks a solid win as they improved to 26-27-6.
“I got it up to Danny (Daniel Sedin), then I skated as fast as I could,” Tanev said . “I knew he would get the puck over if I could beat my guy.”
The goal was his first of the campaign.
“We were emotional. We were intense. I thought there was a bit of a playoff atmosphere out here,” Calgary head coach Glen Gulutzan
Alexander Edler scored for the Canucks in the first period.
Ryan Miller made 35 saves to pick up the win.
“We found a way to get the win,” Miller said. “We had to battle for it. It took everybody.”
The Flames were about to lose the two points in the game until Mark Giordano scored with less than seven seconds to go in regulation.
“There are no moral victories. We need points, and the fact we were able to squeeze a point out with five seconds left is obviously a huge plus,” Calgary’s Troy Brouwer said. “At this point in the season, you take points wherever you can get them.”

Brian Elliott made 17 stops in the loss.
“We always talk about in overtime you’ve got to make that one big save to go the other way, and it didn’t happen,” Elliott said. “That’s frustrating personally, but we did get that point and we were seconds away from not getting anything, so take the positive.”
