Flames get past Kings on Brodie’s OT goal

In Calgary Tuesday, newly acquired Ben Bishop got the chance to feel what it is like to get little offensive support in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Calgary Flames by the Los Angeles Kings.

Bishop made 28 saves in his first appearance as a King.

“I’m excited here moving forward,” Bishop said. “Watching these guys from a distance and now the last couple games being around them, you can see why they’ve been so successful. We’re chasing here. We need as many points as we can.”

TJ Brodie picked up the game-winner with just under two minutes gone in the extra session.

“I saw the middle of the ice open up and I figured I’d shoot through there and [Backlund] made a great pass,” Brodie said.

The Flames are playing their best hockey of the season and have won five straight to almost chase down the Anaheim Ducks for third in the Pacific Division.

“We are confident and we should be. We are a good hockey team and we’ve been trying to build that up all season right from that start,” Calgary head coach Glen Gulutzan

Micheal Ferland struck once in regulation for Calgary.

“The team’s been playing really good right now,” Ferland said. “We know how important these games are and we want to just keep trying to get points.”

Brian Elliott made 28 saves for Calgary as the Flames improved to 34-26-4.

Tanner Pearson was the lone scorer for the Kings who dropped to 30-27-6 with the loss but are just one point back of the St Louis Blues for the second wild card spot in the west.

“First, you have to learn everyone’s name,” Bishop said of moving to a new team. “That helps. That and just learn the terminology and talking with each other. It’ll take a little bit of time. It’s a good group in there. [They’re) veterans and they like to talk a lot, which helps me. I’m just looking forward to it.”
