Flames drop third straight in Vegas

Deryk Engelland scored in the third period for the Vegas Golden Knights to give them a 2-1 lead they would hold for the victory over the visiting Calgary Flames.

For the Knights, it was fifth straight win and for Engelland, it was his first goal in 36 games.

“It’s just getting that team win,” Engelland said. “I think it doesn’t matter who scores the goal, it’s the end result that matters. I think our team did a good job of that tonight.”

Shea Theodore also had a strike for Vegas who trail the San Jose Sharks by seven points for second in the Pacific Division.

Marc-Andre Fleury made 33 saves for the win.

“They’re one of the best [teams] in the League, and that was a big challenge for us,” Fleury said. “I thought we embraced it. We’ve been locked in lately, and that was another example of beating a good team here.

“Those games are fun. They’re close, they’re intense. Fun to win.”

The Flames have lost three straight.

“This was an intense game, close all night long,” Fleury said. “We played the right way and it paid off.”

Travis Hamonic scored Calgary’s only goal.

“It’s going to happen this time of year; things tighten up,” Hamonic said. “There’s not much room out there. It doesn’t matter who you play against, you have to fight through it. It’s happening all over the League right now. It’s not just in our game.”

David Rittich made 36 in the loss.

“I thought it was an even game. I thought they had good looks, so did we. I thought we generated a ton in the last couple of minutes. It’s a tough way to lose,” Mark Giordano said after the game.
