In Tampa Thursday, the Calgary Flames defeated the Lightning, 3-2 in regulation.
Brian Elliott, who is starting to feel more comfortable in the Flames crease now, made
23 saves for the win and was solid throughout.
“We got down 1-0 off a tip from the point and the guys really didn’t get too low on it and we just battled back and scored a big goal and a couple unanswered there,” Elliott said. “You know sometimes it comes together and guys are clicking a little bit and it showed tonight.”
Dougie Hamilton and Mikael Backlund scored for Calgary and Sean Monahan picked up his 100th NHL goal in the win.
“It was nice to get [my 100th goal] and nice to get it in a win,” Monahan said. “Within this dressing room we continue to get better day-by-day and we have to look forward to the next game now.”
The Lightning are now 5-1-2 in their eight and got goals from Vladislav Namestnikov and Nikita Kucherov in the loss.
“I just thought they’re a good defensive team,” Namestnikov said. “We had trouble getting through the neutral zone with too many turnovers. At the end of the day, they scored one more goal than us.”
Tampa Bay dropped to 27-25-8.
“It hurts a lot,” Tampa’s Alex Killorn said. “We’re leaving points on the table. We did have a good run. I think, going forward, we realize that now we have a ton of divisional games coming up. Those are going to be huge. We’ll learn from tonight. We’ll take what we can. We just have to come prepared, regardless of the team we’re playing.”
Calgary is four points up on the Los Angeles Kings who lost to the Boston Bruins on home ice.
“This is the time of year you need to get to the net and goals are going to be ugly and if you look at the chances in the first they got a tip, and then you look at our two goals, the same thing,” Calgary head coach Glen Gulutzan said.

Andrei Vasilevskiy made 22 saves in the loss for the Bolts.
“We just didn’t shoot pucks. That was it. We had 22 shot attempts after two periods. You should have that after 10 minutes, 15 minutes in a game. There wasn’t that urgency to score. It was an easy night for their goaltender tonight,” Tampa Bay head coach Jon Cooper said of his team’s offense.
