Flames burn Jets Jets lose, 4-1

CALGARY, AB – The holiday break can’t come soon enough for the Winnipeg Jets as they lost 4-1 in Calgary Tuesday night and were swept on their two-game swing through Alberta. The Jets now see themselves sitting in the basement of the Western Conference.

Tuesday was the Johnny Hockey show as the sophomore superstar scorched the Jets for three goals; his 13th, 14th, and 15th of the season.

“He changes a game,” Joe Colborne said. “Every time he steps on the ice, he can be that difference-maker and there aren’t too many guys in the League that can do that. You have (Patrick) Kane, you have one or two other guys, and Johnny. Everyone kept saying, ‘Oh, he’s kind of like a poor man’s Patty Kane.’ Well, he’s showing he’s right up there with the best players in the League. We get to see him do it every day and we see him do it in practice, but he never ceases to amaze us.”

Johnny Gaudreau who is just 22-years of age is quickly becoming a superstar and he showed his skill Tuesday as he was very dangerous all game long.

“We played a great team game tonight,” Gaudreau said. “I was fortunate to get three goals there. It’s exciting. The guys are really excited to head back home and see their families. You could see how well we played tonight. It was a great effort from the whole team.”

Although the Jets didn’t have nearly as many quality chances as they did Monday night against the Oilers they still were in the game being down 2-1 right up till the last four minutes before Gaudreau added his two snipes.

Managing just 20 shots on goal they did have more than a few great chances but were once again denied by a hot goalie.

Karri Ramo got the win for the Flames as he made 19 saves including a couple huge stops off the stick of Drew Stafford.

These Jets who are known to be a very fast, physical team got outskated and out hit by the Flames tonight. It’s not many nights when the Flames out shoot and out play teams but tonight they had a physical element to their game and had some quality puck control down low.

Michael Hutchinson stopped 29 shots taking the loss in his first start since December 3. Hutchinson hasn’t won a game since mid November.

Tyler Myers scored the lone goal for the Jets as he converted a great passing play between Blake Wheeler and Andrew Ladd to get his fourth of the season.

The Jets will get a few days off before having a quick two game home stand and will be playing some desperate hockey to get back in the race.
