After stretching their win streak to six games on Friday in a win over the Calgary Flames, the Vancouver Canucks ran out of magic and luck in a 3-1 loss Saturday in Calgary.
Alex Chiasson, Matt Stajan and Michael Frolik had goals for the Flames who improved to 22-18-2.
“We played a good game [Friday] and probably deserved better and couldn’t score on [Ryan] Miller,” Calgary’s Chad Johnson said. “Tonight we wanted to stick with it and be confident in our game. It was a fun atmosphere out there. We won the game and that’s what’s important.”
Johnson stopped 28 shots to get the win after Ryan Miller stoned the Flames Friday night.
With the first half of the season now in the rearview mirror it is time to start thinking post season and the Flames gained a three-point advantage over the Canucks for the wild card.
“That’s a swing game,” Stajan said. “[Friday] didn’t go the way we wanted. We played well but didn’t find a way to win. We weren’t at our best today. To come out and find a way to get two points, stay above those guys in the standings, it’s huge.”
Bo Horvat scored to lone Canucks goal.
“I thought we had some really good chances, especially on the power play at the end there,” Jacob Markstrom said. “We got some bounces [Friday] and we didn’t get them today.”
Markstrom made 28 saves in the loss.

“We created chances and that’s hockey. Tight games, pretty much every game we play this year is tight. We have to keep working hard like we did. With the five ‘D’ too, I thought they battled really hard,” Markstrom said of the Vancouver effort.
