A four-goal third period turned a 4-3 deficit into a 74 win for the Calgary Flames Saturday night over the Vancouver Canucks.
The Canucks had beaten the Flames soundly in the teams’ opener earlier in the week in Vancouver.
Elias Lindholm had two goals and three points on the night in the win.
“It’s huge,” Lindholm said. “Obviously the way we played the last game, we don’t want to play like that. We want to play better. We have a group in here that expects from ourselves to play better as well. I thought we stayed with it today, played good in the third and got the win. It was a good night.”
Johnny Gaudreau, Mark Giordano, Sean Monahan, Austin Czarnik, and Michael Frolik all scored for the Flames.
“We were moving the puck around pretty well tonight,” Gaudreau said. “Lots of practice the past few days, a lot of video on the power play. I think we definitely got a little bit better there. Still some room for improvement.”
The win was first for new Flames head coach, Bill Peters, his first win.
“I thought there were lots of ebbs and flows,” Peters said. “Special teams were big tonight and there were big moments in the game and we made enough plays to get away.”
Elias Pettersson struck for two goals and Brandon Sutter and Bo Horvat scored for the Canucks.
“Personally, I’m very happy with my start,” Pettersson said. “It’s going good out there. I’m confident and producing offensively and I think I’m playing good defensively, too.”

Jacob Markstrom made 30 saves in taking the loss.
“It’s frustrating standing here with a loss,” Markstrom said. “We took some penalties and they kept going. We have to learn as a team, especially up by one coming into the third, it’s not easy to do on the road. You can’t just waste those.”
