Five-star Blaze blank Capitals

Genting Casino Coventry Blaze registered a sixth successive Rapid Solicitors Elite League victory as they beat Edinburgh Capitals 5-0 at the Skydome.

It continued Blaze’s remarkable run of form in their march towards a play-off place, with them now taking 21 points from the last 22. 175px-CoventryBlaze

Blaze welcomed back defenceman Justin DaCosta after a four-game absence but were without forwards Steven Goertzen and Vladimir Nikiforov.

They made a flying start and were 2-0 up inside five minutes with Derek Lee getting the go-ahead goal after 70 seconds before Jereme Tendler added a second (4.42).

Mike Egener grabbed only his second marker of the season – and first since September – at 22.20 with Ben Arnt scoring a fourth on the powerplay at 28.24.

Ryan O’Marra rounded off the scoring with 10 seconds left while goaltender Brian Stewart made 29 saves to register his third shut-out of the season.

It was the biggest win of coach Chuck Weber’s tenure and saw Blaze move into sixth place with five games remaining.
