In Columbus Tuesday night, Christian Fischer picked up his first career NHL hat trick to lead the Arizona Coyotes to a 4-1 win over the Blue Jackets.
“It’s nice,” Fischer said. “That’s the first time we’ve played together this year. A guy like that is really smart. He knows the ins and outs of the game.
“I know if I get open and create space, he’s either going to pass the puck or take the shot, whatever is the right play.”
Dylan Strome also had a strike for the Coyotes.
Darcy Kuemper made 35 saves to get the win; he was a game time decision with Annti Raanta having an illness.
“I love of that of him,” Coyotes head coach Rick Tocchet said. “He said ‘I’m ready to go.’ He played really well. I’m proud of him. It’s never easy as a goalie to get two hours before we get going.”
Arizona improved to 3-5-0 with the win.
Pierre-Luc Dubois scored early to give the Jackets a 1-0 lead.
“They checked well,” Blue Jackets forward Boone Jenner said. “You could see it throughout the second period, they had good sticks.”
The Blue Jackets fell to 4-4-0 with the loss.
“I owe Derek a nice dinner and a bottle of wine or something. He had the [primary assist] on every goal,” Fischer said of Derek Stepan who assisted on all three of his goals.

Sergei Bobrovsky made 22 saves for the loss.
“We needed something good to happen in a game where we’re fighting it a little bit. We’ve got to be a little better, a little sharper, more attention to detail,” Columbus’ Nick Foligno said after the loss.
