First derby of season goes to Ice with late goal from Powell Ice win over Mustangs with 19 seconds left in regulation

MELBOURNBE, Australia – In the first derby of the season, the Melbourne Ice found a goal with 19 seconds left in regulation to secure a 2-1 win over their local rivals, the Melbourne Mustangs.

Thomas Powell picked up the game-winner off assists from Matt Armstrong and Paul Kurceba.

Lliam Webster had staked the Ice to a 1-0 lead in the first before the Mustangs tied it in the second off a goal from Viktor Gibbs Sjödin .

Jaden Pine-Murphy got the win off a 27-save performance.

Fraser Carson took the loss on 30 saves.
