DANBURY, Conn – A small but loud crowd wearing more green than usual came out last night to see the Cape Cod Bluefins and hometown Whalers mix it up one more time in FHL action. The green-out was in response to a disagreement between fans and the FHL’s disciplinary reaction to a pair of brawls between the two clubs last week.
Danbury fans were encouraged through social media outlets to wear green in support of their team. The result was an encouraging sign for the Whalers and reach of the social media in the FHL fan base.
Danbury fans have vented online on their displeasure with the disparate penalties handed down by the league following two bench-clearing altercations last Saturday.
The rematch was a surprisingly clean game with few penalties. Aside from a fight at 19:40 in the third, only a single minor penalty per period was whistled throughout the match.
The star of the night was Chris Seifert with five points on the evening night including four goals and one assist.
Alec Kirschner was not far behind for the Whalers in star power with six point night on two goals.
While not as stellar as Sunday, Billy Tibbetts continues to impress with his on-ice leadership and performance. Last night he potted a goal and chipped in two assists for the visitors and was a +2 on the night.
The Whalers surrendered a 4-2 lead to the Bluefins earlier in the game and Tibbetts netted the tying marker to make it 4-4. But the Whalers responded with three straight to take the match 7-4.
Luke Frey, Anthony Sarno, and Dan Gordon also had one goal apiece.
