Firebirds Name Dashawn Tolbert Head Athletic Trainer

Flint, Mich. – The Flint Firebirds announced today the hiring of Dashawn Tolbert as the team’s new head Athletic Trainer.

“On behalf of the Flint Firebirds hockey club, we would like to welcome Dashawn Tolbert to the Firebird hockey family,” President of Hockey Operations Terry Christensen said. “As a former college athlete, he has a great understanding of the type of work we’re looking for here. We feel fortunate to have been able to hire him.”

Tolbert has spent numerous years working in the Flint area, including as an athletic trainer for the Flint City Bucks and for Flint Powers High School.

“The years of experience I have had in the high school setting, while also gaining experience with the (Flint City) Bucks, and working with high-level athletes through the years has prepared me for this position,” Tolbert said. “I didn’t expect to get it, but the opportunity came to me and I was ready to accept.”

Tolbert attended Saginaw Valley State (SVSU) where he was a part of their track & field team. He gained clinical experience with SVSU working with their tennis, football, volleyball and soccer teams. After graduation, Tolbert worked at ATI Physical Therapy in Pontiac, Mich. as a rehab technician before becoming an athletic trainer at Oxford High School.

“I’m excited for it and ready to take on the challenge,” Tolbert said. “Terry (Christensen) has been great and the process has been great. Everyone here has been very helpful in helping me learn the ropes.”

Tolbert graduated from SVSU in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. He currently resides in Grand Blanc, Mich.
