Columbus, GA – This matchup is the final match between these two teams for the season. With sea wolves being a new team this year, there is already a strong developing rivalry. The insane match from Saturday’s game brewed some blood and feelings between the players.
The first period would start off with the dragons’ Jmaeff scoring at the 2:27 mark during a power play. It was quiet till the 9:21 mark when there was some pushing and shoving between players on both sides. There was a confrontation near center ice involving a couple sea wolves’ players and a river dragon player. Pace from the sea wolves would get involved and a penalty before getting ejected. On the way out, he would commit another penalty putting the dragons on a major power play for five minutes. The sea wolves would manage to kill the penalty without letting the dragons add to their lead. The dragons would manage to get another goal at the 16:05 mark with Costello hitting one in off a face-off. This would end the period which was similar to the game prior.
The second period would start with some power plays, but the dragons wouldn’t be able to capitalize. The dragons would get a goal at the 8:05 mark with Vannelli getting the credit. The dragons would get another power play goal with Storjohann knocking in a backhand shot at the 17:09 mark. This would be the dragons up 4-0 going into the second intermission.
The third period would start to show the overflow with feelings and emotions. Two players would drop gloves immediately at a face-off at the 5:39 mark. Once things are settled and calm after that fight, there would be another fight at the 6:05 mark. The puck would be placed on the sea wolves’ dot, the dragons would get the puck. Greco would slap in the puck at the 6:09 mark. The dragons would continue to press on the gas with another goal scored by Costello at the 11:14 mark. This puts Costello on hat trick alert for this Sunday game. Jmaeff would get the puck and break away to score at the 12:48 mark. This would put Jmaeff on hat trick alert as well with Costello. The clock would move down to the 13:38 mark before Costello would score and get his hat trick for the game.
The score at the end of the game would be 8-0 in favor of the dragons. This is a rivalry that is far from over but will rest until next season. This also makes Colgan’s seventh shutout for the season which adds to his own record.
