WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins claimed their 12-game season series versus the Hershey Bears with a 3-1 win on Saturday at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. Jayson Megna recorded a goal and an assist to lead the offense for the Penguins. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton goaltender Matt Murray made 26 saves on 27 shots to record his ninth win in a row. 
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton jumped out to a 1-0 lead against the Bears just 1:48 into the contest. A slow-moving rush through center ice saw Tom Kostopoulos spring Megna behind the Bears defense for a wrist shot to the top right corner of the Bears net.
With 11:35 remaining until the first intermission, it was Megna sending Sheary alone down the left side of the Hershey zone, where he broke toward the front of the net before sneaking his 20th of the season under the blocker of Bears goalie Philipp Grubauer.
Hershey picked up its pace of play in the second frame and got on the board at 10:12 when Mike Moore’s shot from the center blueline sailed through a screen and past the glove of Murray.
The Penguins regained their two-goal margin as Tom Kuhnhackl started a 3-on-2 break into the Bears zone. Carter Rowney’s redirect of Kuhnhackl’s centering feed was denied by Grubauer, but Dominic Uher was in position to clean up the rebound to put Wilkes-Barre/Scranton ahead, 3-1, with 5:34 left until the second intermission.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton would hold the Hershey offense at bay in the third period to claim the win and shrink the Bears’ lead for first place in the East Division down to three points. Grubauer suffered his fourth straight loss, turning aside 24-of-27 shots.
