Falcons salvage point from weekend.

SPRINGFIELD, MA – The Springfield Falcons continued their disappointing losing streak Sunday, but managed to salvage a point in a loss to the Adirondack Phantoms with 1.6 seconds left in OT. Defenseman Danny Syvret scored his first goal for the Phantoms at 4:48 and change in overtime. Stefan Legein scored an unassisted goal with less than a minute to spare in the first period, followed by a power play goal from Kris Kolanos at 18:01 in the second to put the Phantoms ahead 2-0. The Falcons tied the game with goals from winger Chad Wiseman at 19:43 in the second, and a power play goal from veteran defenseman Chris Armstrong at 16:49 in the third. Charles Linglet recorded two assists and Chad Wiseman one for the Falcons in the hard fought effort.

The Falcons’ losing streak could easily be attributed to the NHL affiliate Edmonton Oilers, as they have recalled seven Falcons to fill their injury plagued ranks. Including starting goalie Devan Dubnyck, who’s departure coincided with the Falcons’ current slide of 0-5-1-1 in the last seven games. “Any time you go through a losing streak you always worry about the mood of your team” commented Coach Daum on the team’s spirit, “ I don’t think it’s turned, so I’m not concerned….whenever you go through a stretch like this you measure the character of your team”.   Veteran Chris Armstrong added: “I don’t think there’s been any quit in the team. We need to find a way to battle through.”

The good news for Falcons fans is the back-up goalies Sorachan and Perugini are sharpening their skills, and the recalled Falcons are beginning to trickle back from Edmonton, as the Oilers mend. Injured reserves Taylor Chorney and Chris Minard are skating with the team now and should be in game form soon. Of course, the Falcons fans are collectively wishing for Nikolai Khabibulin’s healthy return to the Oilers net, as they hope for “Duby” back as Springfield’s goaltender soon.
