In Detroit, Robby Fabbri picked up a natural hat trick for the Red Wings in a 3-2 win over the visiting Dallas Stars on Thursday night.
“We’re having a lot of fun,” Fabbri said. “I was excited to come here, and it has been great as this group jells and gets better and better every game.”
Jonathan Bernier made 22 saves before leaving the match in the second period with an apparent injury, he did not allow a goal.
Thomas Greiss relieved Bernier and made 16 saves.
“When he came here, we had a talk because he’s been so much with injuries and he’s not the fastest guy or the strongest,” Detroit head coach Jeff Blashill said. “To be an effective player, he has to make sure that he’s very, very competitive to win battles. He’s done that on a consistent basis for us, and I have a ton of respect for the way he plays.”
Roope Hintz scored midway through the third period to cut the score to 3-1.
“We certainly had enough scoring chances — we had 40 shots and missed a couple breakaways and tap-ins,” Dallas head coach Rick Bowness said. “We basically lost the game with two turnovers.”
Jason Dickinson added Dallas’ second goal with under two minutes left on the game clock.
“It’s always frustrating when you play good hockey and keeping finding ways to lose games,” the Stars’ Radek Faksa said. “We don’t know the reason, but we need to keep playing hard and hopefully turn this around.”
Jake Oettinger made 18 saves in the loss.
“They are a different team than the one we saw at the start of the season,” Dallas’ John Klingberg said. “They are playing a lot better, and they are tough to play against. That’s a good team.”
