You could see some fatigue in the Owen Sound Attack’s game Sunday afternoon, as they fell 5-3 to the home SOO Greyhounds. Though it wasn’t the ending that the Attack had hoped for, they do finish the northern road swing collecting four of a possible six points.
A small silver lining from the game is captain Colby Barlow, who picked up a goal late in the game to extend his goal scoring streak to 10 games. The mark sets a new franchise record, as Barlow surpasses Ryan McAllister who had a nine game goal scoring streak back in 2000-2001.
Overall, it was a tough afternoon for Owen Sound however, as they were just a step behind a rested Greyhounds team. It was the home Hounds who opened the scoring, but it was Matthew Papais evening the game with a terrific goal, as he danced the defender before finishing glove side.
The Attack got themselves in trouble late in the second period, as they had trouble eleaviating the SOO forecheck. Though finding themselves trailing 3-1 with just a few minutes left in the period, Ethan Burroughs was able to take advantage of a turn over at the defensive blue line, as he buried the breakaway opportunity to pull the game to 3-2.
The game was stretched to 5-2 until Barlow’s goal with just 13 seconds left on the clock. Though having five goals go behind him, Nick Chenard was solid in the Attack net, providing some security and confidence when dealing with the Greyhounds forecheck.
Owen Sound returns to action next weekend with a home and home series against the rival Guelph Storm, with the first game going Friday night in Guelph, with the teams returning to the Bayshore Saturday night. The Saturday night game is the annual Attack Hunger game. Tickets for Saturday night can be purchased at the MacVicor and McComb Sutton Realty Attack Box Office.
