ESTERO, FL – The Florida Everblades defeated the Norfolk Admirals in their first of three meetings this season by a score of 4-1 at Germain Arena Friday Night.
The ‘Blades struck early with a slap-shot goal from defenseman Josh Wesley. The highly touted 20-year-old prospect who was recently assigned from the Carolina Hurricanes had a strong showing in his first game leading the team in ice-time with defensive partner Logan Roe. Both players finished the game with a plus-3 rating.
Before the game, ‘Blades head Coach Brad Ralph said that he was impressed with the team’s quickness and passing ability so far this season and the players didn’t disappoint.
While on the power play early in the second period, the Blades were able to execute a breakout passing play and get the puck deep into the Norfolk zone. After recovering the puck in the corner, forwards John McCarron and Matt Berry cycled the puck down low eventually hitting defenseman Zach Kamrass at the point for the goal.
The goals did not stop in the second period as a barrage of shots from the Everblades forwards knocked Norfolk’s goaltender Eetu Laurikainen out of the game with two more goals in the second period off the sticks of Mike Ferrantino and Matt Berry.
Berry was named the first star of tonight’s game tallying two points, including his goal in the second, extending his scoring streak to six games.
There was a total of eight assists dished out by the Everblades who were equipped with their alternate camouflage uniforms that they are sporting for military weekend.
The winning goalie was Daniel Altshuller who allowed only one goal on 19 shots.
The Everblades will be back in action Saturday night when the finish off Military weekend when they matchup again with Norfolk. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
